Bidvest Wits midfielder Marawaan Bantam says FC Cape Town was tougher than they expected after they beat the
National First Division (NFD) side in a penalty shootout in a Nedbank Cup quarterfinal match at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday.

“We expected them to be defensive and to pack the midfield, but they were really well organised and stuck to their game plan.
They made it very difficult for us to create scoring chances,” the Wits number seven said.

After 120 minutes there was no score but Wits emerged victorious in the penalties.
FC Cape Town started things off in the shootout and scored first but missed their next as captain Samuel Eboule struck the underside of the bar.
The NFD side’s keeper Thembalethu Moses, who made several saves during the game, also stopped Sipho Mngomezulu’s spot-kick.

“They showed their hunger and battled hard, they really wanted it badly and penalties are not the best way to decide a winner,”
said the former Santos kingpin.

Darren Dicks sent the Cape side’s fifth spot kick against the post and Patrick Phungwayo converted Wits’ final kick to see his team
win 4-3 and advance to the semifinals.

“Well, we through to the next round and that is what is important. We won’t forget FC Cape Town soon and the scare they gave us,
I am just happy that we could please our fans,” Bantam thanked the Wits fans for coming in numbers and FC Cape Town for the sporting
manner in which the game was played."
